RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Snowball throwing may have been temporarily halted due to the lack of ongoing snow, but that doesn’t mean the white stuff won’t return. Local eye doctor Craig McCabe recently warned listeners about the hidden dangers associated with snowball fights, especially when the snow is heavy and wet, as Rutherford County experienced during the most recent winter weather saga… When a densely packed snowball strikes a person’s face, rather than hitting a body part, the outcome can be painful and potentially damaging. Scroll down for details on the podcast above this article.
In addition to snowball fights, there is a more common concern regarding other objects like baseballs and racquetballs, which can cause even more harm…The average speed of a racquetball is between 80 and 120 miles per hour.
Dr. McCabe recommends a swift trip to the emergency room if you are struck in the eye by a snowball or any other object that causes pain in or around the eye. Damage to the eye, when not treated promptly, can lead to lifelong alterations in vision.
