MURFREESBORO, TN – The MTSU Department of Art and Design is thrilled to announce its opening exhibition for the Spring 2025 semester, entitled Concerns, Delusions, and Conspiracies. This compelling showcase will highlight the sculptural works of renowned artists Bert Gilbert and Steve Ward. The exhibition will be displayed at the Todd Art Gallery in Todd Hall, room 224A, from Tuesday, January 21, 2025, following MTSU's Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday observance until Saturday, February 15, 2025.

About Bert Gilbert - Bert Gilbert is a seasoned artist with a rich history in craftsmanship that began in his father's basement workshop, where he created toy boats, wood carvings, and intricate alarm systems during his childhood. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture and Painting from Indiana University in 1983. After dedicating many years to family and business, he returned to art at 50, reigniting his creative passion by participating in iron casting workshops at Sculpture Trails in Solsberry, Indiana.

Gilbert's artistic practice spans various mediums, particularly emphasizing metal due to its durability and textural qualities. He incorporates recycled materials into his sculptures, reflecting his interest in their historical significance and the cultural implications of consumerism. His work is designed to spur dialogue through familiar forms, inviting viewers to engage with the pressing issues of contemporary life.

About Steve Ward - Steve Ward is a distinguished sculptor known for his innovative approach to contemporary materials and forms. With a solid foundation in traditional sculptural techniques, Ward often blends these methods with modern technology to create dynamic installations that challenge viewer perceptions. His work frequently explores themes of identity, nature, and the interplay of environmental elements, aiming to provoke thought and discussion around the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Ward holds a Master of Fine Arts degree, which underscores his commitment to the artistry and the academic rigor of sculpture. His past exhibitions have garnered critical acclaim, and he is often recognized for his ability to engage audiences through interactive elements and powerful narratives embedded in his works. His contributions to the field emphasize the significance of art as a medium for social commentary and connection.
