Chronic Thief: Local Woman's Shopping Spree Lands Her in Hot Water… Again

In the ongoing saga of retail theft, Orlexus Elliot, a woman who appears to have a serious shopping situation going on, is back in the spotlight. The 27-year-old, who gained some notoriety locally after a sizable shoplifting incident at Victoria’s Secret in Murfreesboro, has been busily racking up a stunning 58 offenses since 2016, making her quite the regular in the local courts.

Her most recent escapade took a turn for the dramatic, as this accused shoplifter was captured on surveillance cameras making off with a grand total of $11,039 worth of merchandise from various retailers across Nashville. Elliot evidently kept things exciting by allegedly stealing from a whole range of shops—from designer handbags to hefty boxes of candy. Her escapades also kept police guessing as to where the next target would be.

According to the Metro Police Department, Elliot's shenanigans include the un-inspiring theft of nine handbags worth $3,642 from the Coach store and 20 designer coats valued at $3,365 from Polo Ralph Lauren. These high-end items were later posted for sale on social media pages in Middle Tennessee the very same day, according to authorities. Talk about fast turnover! Police also say that she cleverly made an appointment under a false name to swipe 14 pairs of Prada glasses.

The list goes on, which is why the detectives from the Organized Retail Crimes Unit began investigating her. It was found that she allegedly took candy from Walgreens, tumblers from Ace Hardware, diapers from local drugstores, and a countless number of beauty products from Ulta.

After being surveilled by detectives and even a police helicopter this past Monday, Elliot finally found herself in a new pair of handcuffs with a bond set at a whopping $102,500. And let’s not forget the long list of previous offenses tied to her name, including a conviction for possessing tools used in retail theft, which was one of the charges she plead guilty to in Murfreesboro after the Victoria’s Secret heist —what a resume!

To be more specific, her current arrest warrants, filed by police, charge her with five counts of committing organized retail crime, nine counts of felony theft, and five counts of misdemeanor theft.

So, will Elliot finally learn her lesson this time? Or will she continue with what looks to be more of a lifestyle than habit of chronic thievery? Currently, it looks as if the young lady with a penchant for merchandise and a poorly executed business model will remain in and out of police custody. Whatever path she chooses next the current path is clear—her retail therapy has taken quite the detour into the criminal justice system.
