Nashville, TN - State Senator Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro) was appointed by Lt. Gov. Randy McNally to serve as chairman of the Senate Education Committee for the 114th General Assembly. Additionally, White was assigned to continue serving as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“I am honored to be selected for this position and grateful for Lt. Governor McNally’s trust and confidence,” said Sen. White. “As a former teacher, I recognize the vital importance of having a strong and high quality education system in Tennessee. I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue to improve educational outcomes for our students, provide teachers with the tools they need to help students succeed and expand educational choice and opportunities for parents and families across our state.”
White is a former kindergarten teacher, having taught with the Murfreesboro City School system for seven years. Additionally, she holds Bachelors, Masters, and Specialist degrees in education from Middle Tennessee State University.
Lt. Gov. McNally spoke highly of Sen. White and her leadership.
“Senator White has been a rising leader in the Senate for quite some time,” said McNally. “Her commitment to education and experience as a teacher will serve her well in this role. Tennessee’s commitment to reform in education is clear. I am confident Chairman White will be pivotal to that project.”
White represents District 13 in Rutherford County, including portions of Murfreesboro and Smyrna, as well as the city of Eagleville, along with all or portions of the communities of Almaville, Blackman, Christiana, Leanna, Rockvale, and Walter Hill. She is currently serving her second term in the state Senate.
Senator White will be on WGNS this coming Friday (1/31/2025) from 8:15-9:00AM to tell about the first couple of weeks of the 114th General Assembly.
