MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team investigators are continuing to determine the exact cause of a two-car crash on January 27 that claimed the life of a man and severely injured a 5-year-old. Police have released the name of the deceased, confirming him to be 35-year-old Sylvio Victor from Antioch.
The crash occurred on Middle Tennessee Blvd. between Park Ave. and Haley Road around 6:43 p.m. on Monday night. Mr. Victor, who was a passenger in the Mazda 6 sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel with Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services. The 5-year-old child, who was entrapped in the same vehicle, had to be extricated by Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue firefighters.
After the child and the female driver of the Mazda were removed from the car, they were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The driver is in stable condition, whereas the 5-year-old is described as being in “very critical condition.”
The male driver of the other vehicle, a Nissan Rogue, was taken to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro and was last reported to be in stable condition.
At this time, it appears that the driver of the Rogue, a small SUV, was traveling westbound when it collided with the Mazda, which was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Middle Tennessee Blvd. Investigators are working to determine if speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Police reported that the force of the impact caused the Mazda to crash into a parked car in a nearby parking lot.
The crash remains under investigation. See previous article HERE.
