Caught on Camera: Shoplifting Suspects Visit Smyrna Kohl’s, Often

SMYRNA, TN - Well, folks, it seems that the new year is off to a grand start in Rutherford County, where shoplifting has become the hottest trend at the local Kohl’s. Just five days into 2025, a dynamic duo of alleged larcenists decided to flaunt their talents on camera while picking out clothes like it was their personal runway.

As for the specifics? Authorities are playing coy, not divulging too much—but police did, however, release some rather stylish photos of the suspects, allowing us to catch a glimpse of what the underground crime world may look like.

One of the smooth operators that detectives are looking for sported a breezy tropical leaf ‘cami’ dress, which can be purchased by our audience at the local Forever 21 store. Topping off her dress, the subject chose a timeless classic  - -  a blue-jean jacket.

Because fashion is important, even when the price tag is a five-finger discount, the second woman opted for a maroon knit cap with a small, but mighty pom-pom on top. Her choice in apparel also included a teal zip-up top, an antique white-and-light red skirt, a gray sweater-type jacket and the ever-practical, but cozy leather slippers.

And yes, this wasn’t a one-off incident; it seems Kohl’s has become Smyrna's playground of sorts for aspiring thieves. Recent months have recorded not just one, but ten to fifteen different female shoppers swiftly execute their exhilarating escapades in the same store.

Not to be outdone, last summer saw a particularly ambitious pair load an entire cart with goodies, while blissfully disregarding the need for a payment. COVID masks may be outdated, but apparently, that didn't stop summer shoplifters from earning some serious mileage on their notorious shopping habits.

Let’s not forget last May’s thrilling incident, where a thief not only snagged items but did so in style—driving off in a luxurious $50,000 Cadillac SUV. In stealth mode, the vehicle had the uncanny ability to go incognito due to its lack of a license plate.

Can you help the Smyrna Police Department crack these cases? If you happen to recognize these subjects or just fancy playing detective, don’t hesitate to give Detective Rebekah Ronin a call at 615-459-6644 or send an email to her at rebekah.ronin@townofsmyrna.org.
