RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Starting the week of February 10, 2025, in Rutherford County, the average price of 87 octane gasoline is currently $2.67 per gallon. Rutherford County ranks as the 6th lowest priced gas in the state, tied with two other counties. Just south of Murfreesboro in Shelbyville, the average price of regular unleaded fuel is three cents cheaper at $2.64 per gallon, according to AAA Auto Club.
In Williamson County, located west of the Murfreesboro/Smyrna area, prices are at the top of the list, with regular unleaded selling for an average of $3.09 per gallon. The Brentwood/Franklin area has maintained its high pricing level for the past 13 months, making Williamson County the most expensive county for gas. In nearby Nashville, residents are paying an average of $2.77 per gallon for regular unleaded. To the north in Wilson County, the average price at the pump is $2.68 per gallon, while to the east in Cannon County, regular grade gas averages $2.83 per gallon.

WHERE TENNESSEE RANKS IN GAS PRICES: During the last week of January, Tennessee rose to number 5 for having the cheapest gas in the country. As we enter the second week of February, the Volunteer State has maintained that position, with today’s average price at $2.76 per gallon for regular unleaded. Meanwhile, Mississippi holds the number one spot at $2.67 per gallon, and Texas ranks second at $2.70 per gallon.
The state with the highest gas prices today is California, where the average price for regular unleaded is $4.62 per gallon. If your car requires premium fuel, Californians can expect to pay $5.01 per gallon. Hawaii ranks second to last with an average price of $4.54 per gallon for regular gasoline.
PREMIUM GRADE: For those interested, the cheapest state for premium gas is Oklahoma at $3.42 per gallon, followed by Mississippi at $3.45 per gallon. Tennessee ranks 9th for premium fuel, with an average price of $3.56 per gallon. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.13 per gallon, which is 37 cents higher than Tennessee’s average.
WHERE TENNESSEE RANKS IN DIESEL PRICES: Tennessee is not performing as well in the diesel market. AAA currently ranks Tennessee 13th in the nation for the average price of diesel, which stands at $3.39 per gallon. Oklahoma has the cheapest diesel in the country at $3.19 per gallon, followed by Texas at $3.28 per gallon as of Monday morning.
Hawaii has the highest diesel prices in America, with an average of $5.30 per gallon. California follows closely behind at $5.00 per gallon, and Washington state ranks third, with the average price per gallon at $4.37.
