LYNCHBURG, TN – Just 41 miles south of Murfreesboro, officials at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery are at the beginning stages of a small construction project as debris is cleared, which is more-so a repair, after the roof of one of their barrel houses collapsed. In the Moore County area, the company has nearly 100-barrel houses. Once the debris is cleared, they will likely construct a new housing unit for aging barrels.
The barrel house that experienced the roof collapse has been on the property for nearly 70 years. According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, barrel house 2-15 was built in the late 1960s and has the capacity to hold as many as 19,000 barrels of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. If the collapsed barrel house was at full capacity, as many as 2,850 barrels may be a loss for the company. While this number may not seem significant, the potential financial impact would be considered substantial by most companies. But Jack Daniel’s is not ‘most companies.’ According to available data, Jack Daniel's sells approximately 150 million bottles of their "Black Label" whiskey globally each year, which is their biggest selling product.
The unconfirmed lost whiskey - whiskey that is often referred to as "liquid gold," equals more than 684,000 bottles at 750 ml each, amounting to over $15 million. Of course, that is ‘IF’ the bottles are their $25 bottles. If the bottles were from some of their more limited supply bottles that are priced between $45 and $199 each, potential losses could escalate to between $30 million and $136 million.
Officials at Jack Daniel’s in Lynchburg did not respond to questions or requests submitted by WGNS News. Regardless, the traditional Jack Daniel's Distillery operations and tours continue as normal.
