SMYRNA, Tenn. – The Smyrna Police Department is currently trying to track down the Hoodie Houdini, otherwise known as a dude wearing a multi colored hoodie filled with earthtones and apparently - an iPad. On February 10, 2025, the suspect was captured on security footage allegedly swiping an iPad from a local Walmart by posing as a delivery driver for Spark, a third-party service partnered with Walmart.
You might be asking yourself: How could someone get away with this? Simple. He reportedly showed a fake QR code, took the pricey gadget, and walked right out the door without paying a dime. A truly innovative way to get a new iPad, right? But the fun doesn’t stop there—this may not be the first time he’s used this method. Apparently, he's been accused of pulling the same stunt at multiple Walmart stores across the state, perhaps making him a seasoned pro in the world of retail theft.
The suspect was seen wearing a four-colored hoodie that seems to have been designed by someone with a deep appreciation for confusion. The right sleeve was black, the left sleeve was brown, and the chest was split between tan and dark khaki. Let’s not forget the cherry on top—he accessorized with a black stocking cap, all while wearing a front kangaroo pocket that’s just begging to be filled with high tech goods.
Despite his impressive fashion statement, the Smyrna Police are hoping someone will recognize the suspect’s "one-of-a-kind" hoodie and help bring him to justice. Detective Andrew Schaefer is leading the case, and you can reach him at (615) 267-5048 or email him at andrew.schaefer@townofsmyrna.org.
