Murfreesboro, TN – UPDATE: A seemingly pleasant motorcycle ride on a sunny afternoon turned into a scene of chaos and heartbreak when a road rage incident unfolded, leaving one man dead and another injured in April of last year. The court case surrounding the suspect and the State has since moved through the General Sessions Court and is set to be heard next by a Grand Jury.
The tragic event took place on an otherwise picturesque day, with temperatures soaring to 72 degrees when 49-year-old Paul Howell and his friends decided to take their motorcycles out for a spin. Little did they know that their carefree adventure would take a tragic turn on South Rutherford Boulevard at SE Broad Street. There, a disagreement erupted between Howell and the driver of a small SUV... That was Rutherford County Assistant District Attorney Trevor Lynch.
With blue lights blaring, Murfreesboro Police arrived at the intersection… In addition to Howell being killed, his friend was also injured…
According to detectives, the shooter fired multiple shots striking two of the motorcyclists with one shot fatally injuring Howell and the other hitting Howell’s friend in the arm.
Around 30-minutes after the shooting, the suspect made a phone call to 9-1-1…
Currently, 39-year-old Joseph Gann is facing preliminary charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and reckless endangerment. However, these charges could change when the evidence is reviewed by the grand jury, which will determine whether there is enough evidence to uphold the existing charges or if additional charges are warranted. WGNS will keep you informed.
