SMYRNA, TN - UPDATED: Investigators determined that a 4-year-old boy accessed a gun and accidentally fired it, resulting in his injuries, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Jesse Gammel said Wednesday. The suspect, Taliek Gallishaw-King, was apprehended on Tuesday by U.S. Marshals and taken into custody in Murfreesboro. The boy who accidentally fired the weapon is expected to recover, according to Gammel. The case remains under investigation.

19-Year-old Gallishaw-King of Smyrna was charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence three days after the boy was shot.

While King was wanted in relation to the shooting, he has not been charged with actually shooting the child. “The reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon charge against Taliek Gallishaw-King is appropriate given the information known to investigators,” Gammel stated. King is being held on a $60,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set for May 22 in General Sessions Court.

In an unrelated case, King was previously charged with attempted murder by Smyrna Police in December 2023. The attempted murder charge is connected to an August 29, 2022 incident. He was released on a $71,500 bond. A “Motion Hearing” for that case has been scheduled for March 5, 2025, and a “Plea Hearing” is set for April 25, 2025, before Judge James Turner. He will also face a charge for driving without a license.

In high school, King was a Smyrna Bulldog and a standout basketball player. He was a leading player for Smyrna High School’s boys' varsity team, wearing the number 11 jersey while playing the positions of small forward and shooting guard.
