RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - An early Monday morning look at average gas prices throughout Rutherford County shows that the Murfreesboro / Smyrna area is no longer one of the cheapest places to re-fuel in. However, statewide fuel costs remain favorable compared to most of the country. According to AAA Auto Club, Tennessee continues to rank as the fifth cheapest state for gasoline, with the current average price for a gallon of regular unleaded sitting at $2.70.

In Rutherford County, drivers are paying an average of $2.68 per gallon for regular-grade fuel. South of the ‘Boro in Shelbyville, the price drops slightly to $2.65 per gallon, while Coffee County motorists are paying the identical price that Murfreesboro is, $2.68. To the east, Woodbury residents are seeing slightly higher prices at $2.76 per gallon—eight cents more than Rutherford County’s average. Meanwhile, drivers north of Walter Hill in Lebanon and Mt. Juliet are enjoying some of the lowest prices in the region at $2.62 per gallon. In fact, Wilson County's gas prices are lower than those in 86 of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

That’s a difference of over $8 for the same amount of gas.
