Transfer Station Nears Completion

Rutherford County’s transfer station is nearing completion, marking a major step forward in waste management. Construction, which began in February 2024, is expected to be completed this spring.

A transfer station serves as a facility where solid waste is processed and prepared for transport to its final destination.

Mayor Carr highlighted the importance of this development, stating, “As the fastest-growing county in Tennessee, Rutherford County faces a pressing need for effective solid waste management, with each resident generating 1.1 tons of waste annually. This transfer station represents an essential step in tackling this challenge head-on.”

Economic Impact of Middle Point Landfill

Meanwhile, Republic Services recently shared the findings of an economic impact study conducted by Middle Tennessee State University’s Business and Economic Research Center (BERC). The report suggests that closing Middle Point Landfill could have significant financial consequences for Rutherford County’s residents and businesses.

Mike Classen underscored the broader implications, stating,  “One of our goals is to bring recycling to the forefront in all municipalities of Rutherford County. Without an agreement on the proposed expansion plan, the county risks missing out on positive economic gains.”
