MURFREESBORO, TN - Murfreesboro Police are investigating a violent road rage incident that resulted in smashed windows, a vehicle ramming, and an arrest following a disturbance at a hospital. The altercation began on the morning of Tuesday, March 18, when the driver of a silver Honda Odyssey minivan was reportedly driving erratically on Northwest Broad Street. Witnesses stated that he was cutting off other motorists, using his hazard lights to maneuver through traffic, and brake-checking other vehicles around 6:18 a.m.

The confrontation escalated when the minivan and a white Dodge Ram pickup stopped at a traffic light on Florence Road. The minivan driver exited his vehicle and smashed the pickup’s taillight, windows, and mirror before ramming it while fleeing the scene. In retaliation, the Dodge Ram driver smashed the minivan’s window, injuring his hand in the process. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

"Road rage can easily cloud a driver’s judgment and lead to reckless actions,” said MPD Sergeant Nathan Corwin. “These types of incidents can turn a moment of frustration into a potentially dangerous decision."

Approximately an hour later, authorities located the damaged minivan at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center. The driver had transported an elderly passenger to the hospital following the incident. While there, he reportedly caused a disturbance, prompting staff to request his removal. Smyrna Police officers then took him into custody outside the hospital.

The Murfreesboro Police Department has charged the minivan driver with aggravated assault and felony vandalism, with additional charges pending from the Smyrna Police Department. Meanwhile, authorities are considering misdemeanor vandalism charges against the Dodge Ram driver pending further investigation.

"If you are involved in a road rage incident, try to ignore the other driver and allow them to pass safely,” Corwin advised. “Trying to win an argument behind the wheel with a stranger is not worth jeopardizing your safety.”

Authorities urge drivers to stay calm during traffic disputes and contact law enforcement if they encounter aggressive driving behavior.
