Middle TN - Tennessee is the 19th state to record a case of measles and it is here in Middle Tennessee. Officials are not identifying the person’s age, sex, or where in the mid-state that they live. They are only releasing that infected Tennessean is under quarantine and recuperating at home. Medical officials are trying to determine where this person was exposed to the virus, and whether or not other residents have been infected.
Signs of having the virus appear a week or 14-days after being infected. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red-watery eyes, and that well-known measles rash.
The CDC reports that measles is particularly dangerous for children under five, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Complications can include pneumonia, encephalitis, and even death. Pregnant women may face risks like premature birth or low birth-weight babies.

WGNS queried health officials if it was possible for someone to carry the measles’ virus and not have the disease or show symptoms, and yet infect those with whom you come in contact?
The CDC reports that measles cases are growing at a concerning rate. In 2025, with only a fourth of the year behind us, there have already been 378 confirmed cases, surpassing the total for 2024.
In relation to this growth in the virus, there have been two measles-related deaths in the U.S. in 2025. One was an unvaccinated school-aged child in Texas, and the other was an unvaccinated adult in New Mexico.
