MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A typically quiet Sunday afternoon turned tense in a Murfreesboro neighborhood as a domestic incident escalated into a standoff between police and an armed individual. Authorities responded to the unfolding situation on Goose Creek Lane, a residential street two blocks away from Cason Lane near Veterans Parkway, at approximately 3:42 PM on March 24, 2025.
Upon arrival, Murfreesboro Police Officers encountered an armed subject, prompting immediate calls for the Murfreesboro Police Special Operations Unit. Despite repeated efforts to establish communication, the individual remained unresponsive to officers. Concerned for public safety, officers swiftly blocked off multiple roads in the area, including Goose Creek Lane, Kellner Drive, and Leather Wood Drive.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, the intensity of the situation reached its climax when the sound of gunfire shattered the suburban calm. One witness described the ordeal as "an alarming domestic situation." In a statement released later, Murfreesboro Police confirmed, “Officers discharged their firearms at the individual.”
The confrontation ended after police made their way into the home and confirmed the discovery of a deceased person inside the residence. On Monday morning, specifics of the gunfire exchange remain unclear, but as is protocol in officer-involved shootings, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has stepped in at the request of 16th Judicial District Attorney General Jennings Jones. Their investigation will aim to determine the precise circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.
While residents of the neighborhood process the unnerving events, questions remain about what transpired inside the home before the shots rang out. Authorities have yet to release further details on the identity of the individual, who else may have been involved in the situation, or the exact series of events that led to the gunfire.
For now, Goose Creek Lane returns to its usual quiet, but for those who witnessed Sunday’s events, the echoes of gunfire may linger much longer. WGNS will continue to follow this story.
