UPDATE - MURFREESBORO, TN - We have an update on a breaking crime saga—one that started with what seemed to be a lone mastermind but, in a shocking twist, turned out to involve not one, but two daring deal-seekers. Their target? Not gold, not diamonds—Lego sets. As one great announcer said, “You can’t make this stuff up.”

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, one of these unidentified bargain bandits strutted into Target on Old Fort Parkway on March 5, allegedly swapped out the price tag on a Lego set, and then waltzed through self-checkout, enjoying a discount of his own creation. But why stop at just one? Clearly emboldened by his impressive price-adjusting skills, he decided to try his luck again on March 9.

On his return visit, our bearded discount architect apparently felt he deserved even better savings. Teaming up with an accomplice, he reportedly played another thrilling round of "Let’s Make a Fake Price!" MPD reports that the duo carefully removed the barcodes from expensive Lego sets, replaced them with cheaper ones, and then confidently scanned their newly "discounted" items at self-checkout—because, obviously, why wait for a sale when you can just make your own? The official statement from Murfreesboro Police, “Both men were cutting the bar code off the Lego boxes and scanning a cheaper product at the self-check-out lane in Target.”

Unfortunately for our Lego-loving cost-cutter, security cameras exist. MPD released images of the suspect, and in a shocking turn of events, the public recognized him. Soon after, he and his partner-in-savings were identified, and Detective Ferree secured warrants for theft and criminal simulation. MPD’s Larry Flowers proudly stated, “MPD is committed to fighting all crime, petty to felonies.” That’s right, folks—whether it’s armed robbery or an unauthorized price rollback, Murfreesboro police are on it.

Thanks to the community’s keen eyes, authorities have now officially canceled their BOLO (Be on the Lookout), and the suspects will soon have the opportunity to defend their discount tactics in Rutherford County General Sessions Court. Will they plead guilty, or will they argue that Legos are simply overpriced? Stay tuned.
