Mock "Distracted Driving Crash" at Smyrna High

Smyrna, TN - If you wondered what the emergency vehicle and helicopters were doing a Smyrna High School on Friday (3/28/2025), it was a mock disaster coordinated by the Smyrna Fire and Police Departments and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The "Be in the Zone" program simulated a distracted driving crash at Smyrna High School. The educational event targeted the school’s senior class, emphasizing the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.

It was sponsored by Nissan and Pilot Company, aims to equip teen drivers with crucial knowledge to promote road safety.

During the simulation, students witnessed firsthand how emergency responders handle the aftermath of a crash caused by driver inattention.

Through this impactful demonstration, students were encouraged to adopt safe driving habits and make responsible choices behind the wheel. The Smyrna Police Department, Smyrna Fire Department, Rutherford County Ambulance Service, and Life Flight actively participated, showcasing their coordinated efforts in emergency situations.
