Rutherford County Opens Public Safety Buildings Amid Tornado Watch

Rutherford County, TN - On Sunday night, March 30, 2025, Rutherford County's newly established Public Health and Safety buildings began operating as public storm shelters to aid residents during severe weather conditions. The facilities opened promptly at 10:30 PM to address the current "Tornado Watch," which remains in effect until 3:00 AM.

The county has four strategically located facilities available for residents seeking shelter from potentially dangerous weather:

Rutherford County Fire-Rescue Chief Larry Farley and Rutherford County Commissioner Pettus Read spearheaded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of safety during this turbulent weather. Chief Farley issued a stern warning to the community: "Don't wait for storms to hit before attempting to make it to the safety of these public shelters."
