Murfreesboro, TN - Murfreesboro residents looking for a safe way to dispose of hazardous household items can take advantage of a free collection event this Saturday, April 5, 2025. The event, organized by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, will run from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the City of Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department, 4765 Florence Road.

This one-day event is open to all Tennessee households but does not accept waste from businesses, institutions, or agricultural operations. Residents are encouraged to take part in this opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous items such as cleaning fluids, pesticides, aerosols, adhesives, brake fluid, swimming pool chemicals, paint thinner, lithium batteries, and mercury thermometers.

However, paint and electronic waste will NOT be accepted at this year’s event. Electronic waste can instead be taken to Leanna Convenience Center at 4303 Sulphur Springs Road during designated collection hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays/Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Since its launch in 1993, the statewide Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program has held over 1,500 events and helped more than 373,000 Tennessee households safely dispose of over 25 million pounds of hazardous materials.

For a full list of acceptable and unacceptable items or further inquiries, residents can call (615) 295-9716.

Again, the free HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION is 8:00AM to noon this Saturday (4/5/2025) at the City of Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department, 4765 Florence Road.
