RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - This Saturday, April 12, the Rutherford County Agriculture Community will host Adventures in Agriculture at the Lane Agri-Park in Murfreesboro. Organizers say it's a fantastic opportunity for families to learn more about local agriculture through hands-on activities, live animal exhibits, food displays, and more. This annual event offers children a chance to explore where their food comes from—providing a better understanding of everything that ends up on the family dinner table.
Supporting local schools is another key aspect of this family-friendly event. In case you're not familiar, the Murfreesboro City Schools Backpack Program helps provide food for students facing food insecurity…. That was Jennifer Lowe, Family & Community Engagement Coordinator for the Murfreesboro City Schools. Lowe says that donating food items for the program is an excellent way to support kids who may otherwise go without food over the weekend.
During the upcoming Adventures in Agriculture, volunteers will be on hand to collect non-perishable food donations. The Rutherford County Backpack Program currently serves approximately 1,200 students across the county. A few of the most needed items include single-serve fruit cups, cereal, crackers, juice boxes, pop-top food cans, and other kid-friendly snacks. Donations will also benefit the Rutherford County Food Bank.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lane Agri-Park, located at 315 John R. Rice Boulevard in Murfreesboro. Admission is FREE, and all ages are welcome. The event is sponsored by the Farm Bureau.
If you can’t attend but would still like to help, donations for the Murfreesboro City Schools Backpack Program can be dropped off during business hours at the MCS Central Office (2552 South Church Street, Murfreesboro).
