MURFREESBORO - With the 2024–25 college basketball season officially in the books and the Final Four concluded, Middle Tennessee State University has announced a three-year contract extension for Head Men’s Basketball Coach Nick McDevitt, securing his leadership through the 2027–28 season.

MTSU Director of Athletics Chris Massaro made the announcement Monday, citing significant progress in the program and renewed confidence in McDevitt’s vision.

“One year ago, we acknowledged our disappointment in the 2023–24 season,” Massaro said. “At the same time, we expressed our continued belief in Coach McDevitt, his staff, and the direction they were taking the program. This year, we saw tangible progress.”

The Blue Raiders earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT)—just the fifth in school history—after finishing with the highest computer ranking among non-NCAA qualifying teams in Conference USA. The conference itself was ranked among the top 10 in the nation.

“In short, we had a strong season in a highly competitive league,” Massaro said.

The team hosted Chattanooga in the opening round of the NIT, falling in a thrilling triple-overtime matchup. The Mocs went on to win the tournament, which Massaro noted as a testament to the level of competition the Blue Raiders faced.

“Although it was a heartbreaking loss, it shows the caliber of the opponent we battled,” Massaro said. “We’re proud of the way our team competed and how far we’ve come.”

In light of the team’s progress and the leadership shown by McDevitt, MTSU has moved to secure the future of its basketball program.

“We believe in the momentum we’re building,” Massaro said. “Coach McDevitt has earned this extension, and we’re excited about the path ahead.”

As the program looks forward, the goal remains clear: a return to the NCAA Tournament.

“Conference USA is one of the most balanced and competitive leagues in the country,” Massaro added. “We are more determined than ever to reach the NCAA Tournament, and your continued support is critical.”

Massaro also praised the dedication of McDevitt and his staff, who have continued working to elevate Blue Raider basketball.

“Coach McDevitt, his staff, and their families have worked tirelessly,” he said. “We ask that you continue to stand with them as we push toward even greater success.”
