RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - In a world full of inflation and “you’ve got to be kidding me” receipts, Tennesseans can finally claim a victory that doesn’t hurt the wallet. According to AAA, the Volunteer State proudly holds the number three spot for the lowest average gas prices in the nation—for regular unleaded, that is. Somehow, we’ve managed to cling to third place like a toddler gripping a cookie, and we’ve done so for at least four straight weeks. At an average of $2.72 per gallon, Tennessee is just a fraction of a cent behind Oklahoma, which is basically tied with us. We’ll call it a photo finish at the pump.
Zooming in on Rutherford County, the deals get even better. At $2.58 per gallon, we’re number five in the state for cheapest gas, because why not be a top-five kind of county? Meanwhile, if you’re looking to save a few extra coins, take a short drive south to Bedford County, where fuel is going for a modest $2.52 a gallon – That’s the cheapest in the state. On the flip side, just hop over to Williamson County if you’d like to feel what $3.14-per-gallon regret feels like. Williamson County has consistently had the highest price for regular unleaded fuel and remains the most expensive county in Tennessee for regular-grade gas today.
Premium fuel users, don’t feel left out—Oklahoma once again comes out ahead at $3.39 per gallon (for premium grade), proving they’re really going for the gold in bargain gas. Tennessee is cruising comfortably in fourth place at $3.52 per gallon for premium grade, which is still better than having to take out a loan at the pump.
As for diesel drivers, sorry folks—the Lone Star State leaves us in the dust with $3.14 per gallon, while Tennessee sits at a humbler 14th place, paying about $3.32 a gallon.
So yes, we might not win every competition, but when it comes to not going broke at the gas station? We’re living the dream—in third place, naturally.
