John Lasseter Jr.

John Amos Lasseter, Jr., age 77 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024. A native of Murfreesboro, TN, he was the son of the late John Amos “Jack” Lasseter, Sr. and Lola Mae Taylor Lasseter. John was also preceded in death by his brothers Ricky and Bill Lasseter.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christina “Chris” Matheson Lasseter; son, Troy Amos Lasseter and his wife Lisa Marie of Manchester, TN; daughter, Carey Ruthann Lasseter Cook and her husband Raymond of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Arianna Mae Cook and Colden Steel Cook both of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers, David Lasseter and his wife Deborah of Bell Buckle, TN, and Terry Lasseter of Murfreesboro, TN

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM following the visitation with Pastor David Petty and Dr. Brian Riel officiating.

John was of the Baptist faith, a US Marine veteran, and a retired Computer Programmer with White Stag. During his military service, he spent a year in Viet Nam. When he returned, he met his wife Chris, a fellow Marine, and they stayed together for over 55 years.

John had a love of history and after his military service, he enrolled at MTSU, graduating with a BS degree in history.  He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and his love of history led him to relic hunting. He was one of the first “hunters” of Civil War relics in the middle TN area. Other relic hunters in the area would drive around and look for John’s vehicle to see what new spots he had found, so they could start “poaching”.

He was an avid reader and because he had such a good memory, he could answer most of the questions on Jeopardy. His family often told him that he would make a great contestant.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the disabled American veterans, DAV, or the wounded Warriors project.

An online guestbook for the Lasseter family is available at www.woodfinchapel.com.
