The Old Historic City Cemetery Preservation Project is working to clean and restore the markers and monuments.
Murfreesboro's first church was located in the cemetery. The white marker flags show where First Presbyterian Church was once located. It was also the city's first brick structure.

This is the Col. John Armstrong Leiper, Sr. and Jr.'s burial vault. Sr. was born in Philadelphia and was an attorney who moved here. He was mayor of Murfreesboro in 1847 and 1848. Sr. was also the great, great, great grandfather of WGNS' Bart Walker.
