Murfreesboro, TN, 3/16/2020 - Days after deadly tornadoes decimated neighborhoods and businesses across middle Tennessee, goods donated for storm relief by participants in the 2020 Special Kids Race were distributed earlier this month.
Recovery supplies, including blankets, tarps, hygiene products, and canned goods, were compiled at New Vision Baptist Church on North Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro, TN. Runners were asked to bring the necessities to the worship center as packet pick-up was hosted on Friday, March 6th.
While an exact count on supplies was not made, the goods collected were distributed throughout north Davidson County, as well as Wilson, and Putnam counties. 25 people lost their lives as a result of the early March storms that hit overnight throughout the volunteer state. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has since declared a state of emergency to help provide much-needed relief.
Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs. The Murfreesboro-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has grown to serve over 4,500 children from 19 counties in middle Tennessee.
